The Viva Palestina humanitarian convoy headed to Gaza was forced to change its route after Egypt denied the convoy entry to Nuweiba. The convoy will have to instead travel to Amman before heading to the Mediterranean port of Latakia, in Syria and travel by sea to El-Arish in Egypt.
Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, Chairman of the Perdana Global Peace Organisation, is saddened that one year after the siege, massacre and destruction of Gaza, its people continue to face ongoing blockade of humanitarian aid by Israel. “It saddens me further that this civilian convoy now faces the obstacles imposed by Egypt”, Dr. Mahathir added.
Gaza has been placed under siege since Hamas took over nearly three years ago, with humanitarian aid entering only under strict control by Israel and Egypt.
The Perdana Global Peace Organisation has donated an additional £30,000 to subsidise the additional costs incurred as a result of the re-routing of the Viva Palestina Gaza Aid Convoy. The group remains high-spirited and is determined to bring the much needed humanitarian aid and supplies to the people of Gaza.
